Peter Crouch and Niko Kranjcar each found the net as Portsmouth claimed a 2-0 win over Bristol City and booked a place in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

There was more than a bit of controversy surrounding Crouch's opener, however, as the ball appeared to hit his hand inside the Pompey box shortly before he opened the scoring after a lightning-fast 38th-minute break.

It was Armand Traore who set up the first, and his left-wing partner, Nadir Belhadj, created the second when he found Croatian international Kranjcar in the 88th minute.

The game wasn't quite done and dusted, though, as Bristol won a penalty only moments later. However, England goalkeeper David James saved Nicky Maynard's spot-kick to put the icing on an excellent individual display.

The victory is a huge boost for Tony Adams' side, who had won just once in their last eight games heading into the replay at Ashton Gate
