Spanish daily AS have picked up on a story from England’s Daily Mail suggesting how Cristiano Ronaldo might finally have an excuse to ditch Manchester United and the Premier League for Real Madrid and the Primera Division.
Both papers highlighted how the Portuguese ace is growing tired of the lack of protection being offered by the referees in the Premier League following his latest round of confrontations with the match official during last weekend’s game at Fulham.
Even the player’s manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, has opined that his star winger is being ‘systematically fouled’ by opponents.
“It has become a tactic,” Ferguson was quoted as saying by The Daily Mail. “Someone fouls him, then someone else. The referee thinks he is diving and the crowd are screaming.”
The Scotsman also used a Champions League clash with Villarreal as an example of the disparity between referees in England and the rest of Europe.

Former Liverpool midfielder Jason McAteer has expressed his belief that Steven Gerrard is the greatest midfielder in the world, claiming that the closest anyone comes to competing for the best in Gerrard's position is Brazilian superstar Kaka.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, McAteer shared his thoughts,"When a player like Steven Gerrard, arguably the best player in the world at the moment, gets space then he'll hurt you all day long.
"You can't really compare him to Lionel Messi because they both influence the game in different ways.
"The closest to Steven Gerrard at the moment is probably Kaka - and I would say Gerrard is above him in the best player ratings.
"He influences the team all over and it's not just about the goals. It's what he does off the ball, his movement and the way he brings players into the game."

"When those four players are on their game they'll influence the rest of the team. Fabio Aurelio has been absolutely brilliant in the last four or five games and Albert Riera played fantastically well on Sunday. We know all about Dirk Kuyt too. The whole team has played collectively.
"Unfortunately, what I'm worried about is this international break. It's just come at the wrong time - but it's a great time for Manchester United.
"Sir Alex Ferguson can go away, take stock of what's happened, bring his team back together and go from there.

Owen had been undergoing intensive fitness and rehabilitation work in Portugal under the guidance of specialist John Green, with whom he has worked before.
Hughton said that Owen had undergone "very minor surgery", before explaining that he did not expect it to add to the time Owen could expect to be sidelined.
"It certainly has not increased the time he will be out," he added. "We are hopeful he will be training in a week."
Hughton also had some good news regarding manager Joe Kinnear, now recovering at home after leaving hospital following triple heart bypass surgery last week.

Rafael Benitez gave his players some time off, and he expects them to be fit and fresh when they return to action on Sunday afternoon against Manchester City.
"The rest was good for us," the Reds boss said on the club's official website. "We had been playing too many games in a row and so it was important for the players to rest and enjoy some time with their families. We need to be ready for the important weeks ahead."
"We know the City game is massive for us and that's why we have to concentrate totally on it and prepare properly.
"City are scoring goals but also conceding some so clearly they are a dangerous team. They have good players with the likes of Robinho and [Craig] Bellamy so offensively we have to be aware."
Liverpool now sit five points behind the league leaders following Manchester United's 3-0 win over Fulham, but Benitez is confident of hauling back the Red Devils over the coming weeks.

"The news was that he would be out for three weeks, but we hope that he’ll be back playing again sooner," Torres told The Liverpool Echo today.
"But you never know how things can turn out with a hamstring injury – and I speak from experience.
"It was a good sign that he asked to be substituted as soon as he felt the twinge. If a hamstring goes completely, you don’t get to walk off the pitch."
Gerrard returned to training at the end of last week, and the initial prognosis of three weeks for his period of absence looks like being correct. The Reds’ Champions League tie with Real Madrid on February 25 has been pencilled in as a possible return date for the 28-year old, whom Torres admits brings more to the Liverpool team than merely his awesome skills.

"Rafa was looking for a striker with my characteristics - someone quick who could surprise defenders and get behind them - but I had to learn too," he explained.
"For a lot of coaches the tactical side of the game doesn't matter that much but for Rafa it is fundamental; he is conscious of the way we set up, the movement, the organisation.

"Absolutely," said Trapattoni earlier. "I discussed this with him when I met him. Where does he play with Manchester City? In midfield, behind the strikers, but after a chance at goal, he comes back in here [midfield]."
However, before the player's supporters become too excited, Trapattoni is elsewhere reported as expressing slightly greater reservations about recalling Ireland to the national squad.
"Maybe we will take Ireland into consideration but, if we qualify with this squad, he cannot say, 'I am available'," Sky Sports quotes Trapattoni as telling reporters.
"That's not for him, it's about the fans. He has to show Irishness and a willingness to play for Ireland."

The player came on as a substitute for Croatia last night in their 2-1 friendly victory over Romania, and set up the Croats' winner when he passed for Niko Krancjar to convert the chance.
The 25-year-old is urging caution though, asserting that it will be a little while yet before he is fully fit once more, and believes that supporters should temper their expectations a little before wildly rejoicing at his return, although he was glad to return to senior football.
"Everyone kept asking me about fear, but I’m glad they all saw that I’m not afraid of anything on the pitch and am ready to play," he told English newspaper The Times.
"Only at the moment I went on to the pitch did I feel a little twinge of nerves in the pit of my stomach, but after I got my first touch of the ball, that feeling went away.
"For the second goal, I saw Niko and passed to him. My team-mates all congratulated me, but I have much more work to do if I am to become the old Eduardo."
However, despite the amount of work that clearly lies ahead of him, the Croatian international is appearing keen to get on with things, and is confident that he will be ready soon.

Daniel Agger Wants To Be A Liverpool Legend
Rumours are swirling as to how much longer Daniel Agger will last at Liverpool following his latest comments in the press.The Danish defender is yet to have his contract extended, despite negotiations kicking off last year, while he is becoming increasingly annoyed at his lack of starting opportunities.
But Jan Molby has declared that the 24-year-old, widely regarded as one of the most talented centre-backs in Europe, would like nothing better than to remain at Anfield.

However, Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp has opined that he would be very surprised if the well-travelled Dutchman wasn't still at Stamford Bridge come August.
"I think he is here to stay. I just cannot see Hiddink suddenly upping sticks and moving on when the season’s over," Redknapp said in The Sun.
"Hiddink and [Chelsea owner] Roman Abramovich are close and they have been particularly close since Jose Mourinho left the club.
"Hiddink is also a world-class manager, not the sort of bloke happy to come in and hold the fort for someone else to arrive in the summer and say ‘thanks very much, I’ll take over from all your good work now’."
The main concern some pundits and punters have with Hiddink's appointment is that he will remain the full-time coach the Russian national team.
Hence, there are questions as to whether the 62-year-old will be able to fully devote his time and mind to Chelsea, but Redknapp has dismissed that notion.
"These days it is feasible to be a club manager and an international coach if you think about the logistics involved," he said.
"At a club like Chelsea there is a team of internationals. So every time we get round to international week, most of the squad disappears to every corner of the world.
"Hiddink knows come international week he can join half the Premier League’s players at Heathrow and fly off to coach Russia."

It has been reported that Banco Santander, the largest bank in the Euro region who are also the main corporate sponsors for the McLaren-Mercedes F1 team and the Copa Libertadores, have approved of Madrid’s application for a massive loan.
According to an informer, Jose Ramon de la Morena, who spoke to Cadena SER radio programme, ‘El Larguero’, the Santander-based group have already granted Los Blancos a whopping €70 million credit to assist them in signing Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United this coming June.
It does not mean, however, that that amount is the set price-tag for the 2008 FIFA World Player of the Year, but it is the maximum credit limit for Madrid, as the club cannot exceed 20 per cent of their budget expenses.
The ‘White House’ are expected to have enough in their own pockets to cover the rest of the transfer fee, which will more likely than hit close to the €100 million mark.
And according to Spanish sports daily, AS, United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, will have to release the Portuguese this time around if a fee can be reached between the two clubs and if the player himself decides to leave.
Ronaldo had made Ferguson sign a written agreement during their meeting in Lisbon last August and it stipulates that the winger will be allowed to leave in June 2009 should the opportunity arise.

Fabregas, Adebayor & van Persie To Leave If Arsenal Miss Out On Champions League

The News of the World claims that Cesc Fabregas, Emmanuel Adebayor and Robin van Persie will hand in transfer requests if Arsenal finish outside the top four this season.
Fabregas has often been linked with Barcelona, where he flourished in the youth ranks before moving to England as a teenager. The injured skipper has denied rumours of an imminent return to his homeland, but he has made no secret of his frustration at sitting in the stands while his side continue to drop points.
Adebayor was expected to leave Ashburton Grove last summer, but the Togolese striker stayed put after he and the board reached a compromise over his wage demands. Milan and Barca were both interested but pulled out after being quoted around €40 million.
A clutch of clubs have been keeping tabs on van Persie's situation, as the Dutchman is currently embroiled in slow-moving negotiations over his contract. Real Madrid are thought to be keen on the classy forward, as are Juventus and Barca.
Arsene Wenger would obviously be highly reluctant to let any of these three players leave, as they constitute the core of the team's forward play, but he may have little choice if things continue on their current path.
An unnamed source was quoted as saying, "There is a real problem developing because the big names are bemused at the way things are going.
"If Arsenal finish outside the top four, there’s no way the likes of Van Persie, Adebayor and Fabregas will hang around. They love playing for Arsene Wenger but they also want to win things.
"And, as things stand, they can’t see that happening. It’s not about how much money they can earn, it’s about winning trophies for these guys."
Arsenal are currently languishing in fifth, four points behind fourth-placed Chelsea and some 11 points adrift of Premier League leaders Liverpool.
